Today was one of those days that reminded me why I love handmade things... and also why I have so much respect for the people who make it look easy.
I tried paracord braiding for the very first time.
The goal? Start building my first batch of dog collars for launch day.
The reality? Let’s just say my fingers are still recovering.
Learning the Basics
I started with the cobra knot — it’s one of the most common and sturdy patterns for collars, and honestly, it’s beautiful when done right.
After watching a couple of tutorials and rewatching them five more times..., I finally set up the jig and gave it a go. My first attempt was... a little wild. The tension was off, the pattern was uneven, and I somehow ended up with a mystery knot I didn’t even tie.
But with each try, it started to click. By braid number three, it was actually looking like a collar.
What I Learned Today
Paracord is tougher than it looks. It fights back a little. But once you get into the rhythm, it’s kind of therapeutic.
Consistent tension is everything. Too loose or too tight, and the whole braid starts looking wonky. I’m learning how to feel the cord instead of just pulling it.
Mistakes are part of the process. I undid the same section three times before getting it right — and that’s okay. Every try teaches me something.
What’s Next?
Now that I’ve got a decent feel for the process, I’m going to work on creating a few color combinations and sizing options. I want these collars to be not just strong, but something you’d actually be excited to put on your dog.

And here’s the exciting part…
🐾 These paracord collars will be available on Etsy starting June 1st!
If you’ve been following along this 30-day business journey, I’d love to hear what you think so far. Or even better — let me know what colors you’d want for your pup!

Thanks for stopping by. See you tomorrow for Day 6 — I think I’ll be photographing my first batch of finished tags!
